Company description

Bartek Ingredients Inc. was established in 1969 by Andrew Douglas and Joop den Baars. In 1974 the decision was made to direct growth towards chemical manufacturing rather than distribution. By the spring of 1976 research on Malic Acid began. In 1977 construction of a pilot plant was underway in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Today, this plant has grown into one of the largest Malic Acid plants in the world, with its products shipped globally. By 1988, an initiative was undertaken to co-produce Fumaric Acid together with Malic Acid. Bartek began construction on a Maleic Anhydride Plant, also in Stoney Creek, in 1984. The company became fully self sufficient in Maleic in 2000 and now sells into the North American merchant market.
