One of IRD's primary products, a weigh-in-motion system, is a unique integrated sensor technology system that acquires real time data on highway vehicles (numbers, weight, type and density of traffic) and road and weather conditions such as icy roads, fog, rain, snow, etc. The weigh-in-motion system ideally allows components to be selected or deselected and permits correlations of components involving pollution, traffic, type of traffic, weather, road conditions, etc., as well as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for bridges, tunnels, etc. The weigh-in-motion System can also be used to prescreen trucks at Weight Inspection Stations, thereby identifying trucks which exceed weight restrictions or regulations. Additionally, the weigh-in-motion system is used at toll facilities to determine overloaded vehicles, but also to charge according to vehicle weight and vehicle classification.
