Established in 1986 as a not-for-profit consortium, TRLabs fast tracks innovation to market by working with its 99 industry, government, and academic partners and clients to invent, modify, and/or prototype market-driven technology.
It has won national and regional awards, including a University-Industry Synergy Award given by the Conference Board of Canada and the Natural Sciences and EngineeringResearch Council of Canada and an Alberta Science & Technology Leadership Award. TRLabs research activity focuses on three themes: Digital Media; eHealth; and Emerging Sectors. We have labs in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg which employ 36 full time and 100+ part time staff. In its 25-year existence, TRLabs has trained more than 930 highly skilled university graduates; created 399 technologies adopted for use by companies; and generated 61 active patents (issued or filed). In addition, to these we have also created 11 spin-off companies - started by people who worked at TRLabs. |

Priority will be placed on technologies/projects that fit into areas defined as strategic by TRLabs’ Government Stakeholders. For example: Energy, Resources and the Environment have been identified as areas where government stakeholders want to grow supporting ICT industry. TRLabs is well suited to make technical contributions that support sector productivity gains.
