Company description

Pelagic Technologies Inc. (PTI) is a diving and service company specializing in the field of scientific, engineering and inspection diving. PTI’s areas of primary focus are in providing above and below water structural inspections, project management services, marine biological surveys, environmental monitoring, dock and moorage system installation, inspection and repair. Services are offered for both the private and public sectors.

Pelagic Technologies Inc. maintains its offices in Sechelt, British Columbia. Our highly trained staff provides accurate, comprehensive inspections and surveys. As a company we strive to exceed expectations and our attention to detail is uncompromising.

PTI’s highly trained inspectors can provide accurate, comprehensive inspections both below and above water. Pelagic Technologies Inc.’s services encompass many different fields, including the following:

Timber inspections:
PTI offers detailed underwater and above-water visual inspections on timber structures. Underwater inspections and cross-section loss estimates are conducted in order to determine the exact cause, effect and location of damage caused by marine organisms or mechanical damage.

Above-water timber components are assessed using sounding and coring to determine cross-section loss due to mechanical damage and insect and fungal attack.

Steel inspections:
Pelagic Technologies offers underwater and above-water visual and ultrasonic inspections on all steel components to determine levels of corrosion and oxidization damage as well as remaining wall thickness of steel pipe, sheet and ‘H’ piles and bracing. Inspections of cathodic protection systems and mapping of potential current readings are also conducted.

Concrete inspections:
PTI conducts above and below-water visual inspections on concrete structures including piling, superstructure, bridge abutments, caissons, hydroelectric facilities etc. All levels of visual inspections are conducted in order to determine mechanical damage or chemical deterioration.

Environmental assessments, On-site Monitoring and Biophysical surveys:
Pelagic Technologies conducts comprehensive underwater surveys and assessments in order to record and map
species and substrate, estimate percentages of biota and corresponding depths, assess habitat and identify and
record anthropogenic debris.

PTI offers our clients on-site environmental monitoring of marine construction projects. We pride ourselves in our
ability to effectively and efficiently steer construction projects through the potential complexities of adhering to the
Fisheries Act regulations. We strive to be proactive in our approach to monitoring to ensure no shut downs are
necessary – we see problems before they develop.
Environmental assessments are performed for litigation, water lease use impacts and pre and post construction
studies. Benthic (sea bottom) and bathymetric profiling is conducted. PTI utilizes differential Global Positioning
Systems (dGPS) with digital depth sounders and underwater digital video and photography in order to accurately
report conditions within survey areas

Mooring Systems:
PTI installs, inspects and repairs mooring systems for small and large-scale projects including small craft floats, aquaculture facilities and mooring buoys.

Project Supervision:
Our company offers project management during installation, repair and construction of marine facilities and floating structures such as floats, wharves and floating breakwaters. Having an experienced on-site representative allows the owner or Engineer to have confidence that projects are being carried out according to their contract specifications and budget.

Reporting and Drafting:
Comprehensive technical reports are produced in order to communicate the results of each project. The information is compiled using Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD 2006 and can include digital photographs or video.
