The media industry is rapidly evolving, transitioning from traditional media (TV, newspapers) to interactive media (Internet, Social Networking, etc.) and highly specialized applications for a variety of entertainment, communication, financial, educational, and healthcare related applications. The broadcast industry is adapting (Digital TV, VOD, PVR, HDTV, Special Features, Interactivity). Content providers are rapidly positioning for an Internet and mobile era (e.g. Apple iTunes signs deal with ABC, Google acquires YouTube). Major trends include convergence, simplification, specialization, personalization, and portability. Global spending on Media & Entertainment is projected to increase to $2.2 trillion by 2012. Telecom service providers have entered the digital media market (Satellite, Internet television (IPTV), and mobile TV service offerings).
