Featherhead Tech 08 is a partnership by Jeffrey Arquette and Veronica Thompson. We operate within Akwesasne that is a First Nation Mohawk Reserve. Fishing is our life and todays waters do not have the stock anymore. We fish as a right with respect. We spawn out fish and release for what we call is "aquaculture intervention". Having strong desire with more than 10 years doing this we both returned to college to learn all that they had to offer and graduated with honors. Established Featherhead Tech 08 while still completing Aquaculture Technician in New Brunswick Canada. Indigenous Aquaponics is our direction. June 2010 completed a shortcourse at University of Virgin Island. Today in 2011 we want to provide Aquaponics in Akwesasne. We have some equipment used now but was purchased new by us. Presently we are looking to establish this venture where Indigenous People could benifit everywhere. At home our people are in poor health in part by unsafe and depleating fish in our area and heavy air pollution in the past where farming halted. Today with funding and direction with requirements this venture can provide nothing but good to our area and in places that are less fortunate.

Homegrown fish & veggies from seed to delivery.

Tilapia and trout raised in seperate rearing units that combine vegetable growth together. The fish waste is nutrient for plants. Plants clean the water so fish grow to market size where we prepare value added product that is good for green labeling and close to organic. Operation is stagered so both crops provide a steady supply for market. We also smoke and fish Lake Sturgeon and catch, mix, hatch and release for rebuilding of a fish that has been with our people from day 1. Sales of smoked and fresh fish have been established in Akwesasne. Farmed fish and veggies allows us to trade at Farmers Market. Funding and being reconized would allow us to operate on a larger scale and our performance would show that we can do what we claim. Products grown by Indigenous People should be World Pride.

Fish are tilapia and maybe trout grown with vegetables or herbs. Our system is based on "The Godfather of Aquaponics" at U.V.I. Our direction is to grow very high quality of HomeGrown products prepared from head on and gutted to smoked or baked nuggets.

Using aquaponics to provide poly culture. Looking in green direction because the environment is important and our farming is better than rearing of fish alone. Native smoked fish has supported much of our direction here. Value added from seed to our product prepared by us for open market. Cash is good but we will trade.

Réussite :

Self pride has alowed us to do many years of aquaculture intervention. Stocks have been helped and the future has to be in restocking or just helping like we do. Invasive species add to the many predation so growing the fish for one season will help rebuild as we do. Fish spawning right in our boathouse years after releasing there was a sight and memory that should be built on.

Dan Garrow from Akwesasne Area Management Board has supported us for several pilot projects. They provided our way to attend and complete Aquaponics course in U.V.I. in 2010. The A.A.M.B. works with the goverment of Canada making our learning possible. New Brunswick Community College provided us with certificate in Aquaculture Technician
