Company description

INRO Consultants Inc. is a small high tech company which
specializes in the development, distribution and support of
software packages used in transportation planning.

INRO's main products are two interactive-graphic software
packages which incorporate leading edge algorithms and analysis
tools: EMME/2 is used for urban and regional transportation of
people, whereas STAN is used for strategic planning of national
and regional freight transportation.

INRO's principal activities are the development and enhancement
of EMME/2 and STAN. This includes adapting the two packages for
different hardware platforms, as well as developing utility
programs which allow use of a variety of output devices
(graphic adapters, plotters, printers and graphics tablets or
digitizers).

INRO also provides technical assistance to users of EMME/2 and
STAN, and organizes specialized courses and seminars.

INRO keeps in close contact with EMME/e and STAN users by
participating in Users' Group Meetings (both international and
regional), and through selected visits to user sites.

INRO was founded in 1976. Exports account for 90% of its gross
annual sales. The company currently employs 22 professionals in
Montréal. For the development and support of the EMME/2 software,
INRO works closely with the EMME/2 Support Center in Switzerland.

Product / Service / Licensing

Product Name: EMME/2

EMME/2 is a state-of-the-art system for urban and regional
transportation planning. It provides a flexible and general
framework for implementing a wide variety of travel demand
forecasting models.

EMME/2 offers the planner a complete and comprehensive set of
tools for demand and network modelling, analysis and evaluation.
Traffic (equilibrium) assignment and transit (multipath)
assignment offer powerful analysis features. Interactive
calculations for network or matrix data allow implementation of
evaluation and impact analysis methods. Advanced matrix
manipulation tools make it possible to implement virtually any
travel demand forecasting models, including the classical 4-step
model and models based on trip chains. Furthermore, EMME/2 also
allows the simultaneous analysis of several planning
alternatives.

EMME/2 was designed for modelling multi-modal networks: up to 30
modes (such as private car, bus, subway, train, walk...) can be
integrated into one consistent network; full interaction is
provided between transit and car modes.

EMME/2 can be used to address a wide variety of transportation
planning problems, from inter-urban highway studies to urban
road, public transport and multi-modal studies.

EMME/2 is an interactive-graphic package, but it also provides a
powerful macro language, in order to automate repetitive, lengthy
or complex procedures.

EMME/2 is currently being used by over 600 organizations in more
than 60 countries.

Product Name: STAN

STAN is a state-of-the-art system for strategic planning of
national and regional freight transportation. This
interactive-graphic planning tool responds to the needs of
shippers and carriers to efficiently evaluate the impact of major
changes in the transport infrastructure, regulatory environment
and demand patterns on their cost, time, reliability and other
performance measures.

STAN provides a flexible and general framework for representing
the infrastructure and modelling the activities of a multimodal
and multiproduct freight transportation or distribution system.
It allows the simultaneous analysis of several planning
alternatives.

The multimodal network structure of STAN allows representing
conventional modes (such as highway or rail) as well as specific
technologies or operating policies (such as diesel or electric
rail, navigation lines, pipelines, ports, etc). Intermodal
transfers can also be modelled.

STAN offers the planner a complete and comprehensive set of tools
for demand, cost and network modelling, analysis and evaluation.
The tools include: interactive-graphic network editors,
interactive calculations for network or matrix data, interactive
shortest path calculations (based on distance, cost or marginal
cost), advanced matrix manipulations tools.

STAN is an interactive-graphic package, but it also provides a
powerful macro language, in order to automate repetitive, lengthy
or complex procedures.
