1. How do Canada’s copyright laws affect you? How should existing laws be modernized?
The excessively restrictive and punitive laws proposed by this government will make 99 percent of Canadian citizens instant criminals. This government must represent its constituents regardless if they agree with them or not.
2. Based on Canadian values and interests, how should copyright changes be made in order to withstand the test of time.
They are fine the way they are. This question is slanted to imply that a change is needed in the first place when it is not.
3. What sorts of copyright changes do you believe would best foster innovation and creativity in Canada?
Another slanted question that tries to imply that copyright laws somehow drive innovation and creativity when this is not true at all. So I guess in that context no changes are best.
4. What sorts of copyright changes do you believe would best foster competition and investment in Canada?
Stop backing American corporations and lobby groups over Canadian citizens when dealing with copyright laws.
5. What kinds of changes would best position Canada as a leader in the global, digital economy?
A leader doesn't follow, a leader doesn't bend to the will of large foreign corporations. In order to lead this government must first stop following and not be afraid to stand on our own. Our laws must reflect the will of Canadians, this is an extremely simple and fundamental concept.
6. Additional comments:
If the proposed laws were simply about copyright this government might at the very least get some respect. For instance, while other countries recognize that digital locks on devices represent a real threat to competition this government actually wants to make it illegal for consumers to break those locks in order to use the devices to access media from competitors of the hardware manufacturers who are restricting access not for copyright reasons but to keep the competition out of the lucrative software markets. These laws are nothing more than corporations trying to secure a guaranteed monopoly on the exchange of information and culture. This will not be tolerated by citizens and any such laws will not stop copyright infringement in any way, it will simply ruin good peoples lives through repressive financial and criminal code action that will not be successful deterrents in the first place.
