Hello.
I live in toronto in medical school. My views on copyright is that the most beneficial path for canada would be to have a minimally invasive copyright regime as possible. Creativity, by necessity, demands use of the work of others. A clear example of this is found in academia, where extensive quotations, use of prior theories and concepts in not only allowed but encouraged!
Even in this context however, copyright laws are restrictive. Teachers cannot include diagrams in notes because of the threat of lawsuits, texts are out of print, and photocopying the entire text for a lass violates copyright legislation.
The ideal copyright legislation would exept educational and academic enterprises from such restrictions so they could fulfill their purposes with a minimum of interference from the state. Ideally this protection would extend to individual consumers as well, allowing individuals to share content with a minimum of fear and interference from law enforcement.
Thanks for your time.
