- When i buy a blank cd for example, i pay a fee that goes to an artist on the off chance that i'm going to download their song. Even if i use that cd for storing text documents. I feel like i'm treated as a criminal. Fair use is fair Use. If i buy a song or a game I should be allowed to use anywhere i see fit. The company i buy it from should not force me to prove every time i try to play it that i paid for it. I'm not a criminal.
- I think that Fair Use should be the cornerstone of any legislation. If i buy a song i should be allowed to put it on my ipod, a cd or my cell phone. I should be able to play that song where ever i want with what ever device i want. I paid real money for it and therefore I should be entitled to use it as i see fit. the incident with the kindle should not be allowed to happen. Once i pay for something, its mine, the company i bought it from should not be able to delete the song on a whim. If they sold a physical book they can't break into my house and take it back if they find out they messed up. I paid for it. Its mine. That is a very important idea. Also, what happens if the company goes out of business and i can't access their servers anymore to authenticate my music. They would be basically stealing back things that i paid for. That should be illegal.
- Any kind of tariff should be allowed to go anyone (Although i think tariffs on blank media are wrong). A cartel or exclusive organization shouldn't be getting the money. It should go to public arts funding in order to create new artists and to teach Canadians.
- I think a market where the public decides what music they want to buy and from whom is the most important thing. If i'm going to be treated like a thief then I'll act like one. Treat me like you want my business and i'll probably give it to you. Try before you buy is a great idea, especially with games or other software. Also, by letting me use my media on any device opens up the market for networked media servers, new mp3 players, and many other kinds of electronics and devices that can be used to play back my legally purchased media.
- I think that adopting laws that put the consumer first and laws that don't treat everyone like they are a thief in waiting is the best way to show that Canadians are ready to embrace the digital future. I don't buy nearly as many movies anymore simply because there is no point. Paying extra for a physical copy has virtually no added value..but if i download something illegally i can play it on a multitude of devices very easily. This is important. When i buy a song or movie i should be allowed to use it on any device that i own with out having to buy another copy special.
