I've been writing for years but just starting out with a new book and I expect to receive royalties. Otherwise, there is not point in going on. Like any other producer, if I'm not compensated I can't possibly continue.
The hours we put in to produce our work are not nearly compensated as it is. As well, this government does not support the Arts so most artists subsist on an income no other country and no other vocation has to survive on. To suggest that even that little bit is threatened because certain enterprises feel a need to take the work and pay nothing for it is the height of arrogance.
I request that you bar anyone from doing this and ensure that writers are not just paid but fairly paid. I think that is the government's responsibility.
Thank you for your consideration to this very serious matter and I look forward to hearing that this has happened.
