Just as patents protect an inventor, copyright protects a creator.
In both cases, patent holders and copyright holders should be assured that they will benefit financially from their endeavours.
This benefit should continue on to the next generation.
In my case, this protection ensures that that the immediate descendants, the children of an author who is now dead, receive income from the sales of copyright material. This is their inheritance.
