Dear Mr. Harper,
I make my living as a part-time jazz voice teacher at the University of Toronto and as a freelance musician and composer. I dedicate my life to inspiring anyone who is interested in making music or healing through music or both. When I play music in a public space, I, as many others, often pass the hat at the end of the show. Or, I take the $100 that was earned at the door and I split it with the two other musicians who were working with me that night. My music is posted on many digital Internet sites and on two occasions, has been licensed for a TV show on Global. My music can be heard on CBC Radio and Radio Canada as well as several college radio stations. I am my own manager, booker, marketing agent, publicist, and roady. I enjoy being my own boss. I earn approximately $15,000.00 a year. As a creator, I believe the Government must enact Copyright laws that ensure copyright is properly protected and fairly compensated. Protection of copyright is important for artists and businesses, and benefits all Canadians and the Canadian economy.
