To Whom It May Concern:
Whether these words appear on a piece of paper, on a TV screen, on a napkin, in a notebook, on your computer; whether they are transmitted by type or sound — these are my words and no others. I have taken the time to craft them, to form a sentence, to convey a thought.
That's why copyright matters. That's why, as a writer, I believe that words I write are mine and mine alone, and that I should be compensated for someone else's use of them. You are not permitted to see a movie without paying for a pass or a rental. So it should be with writing. Writing is a profession, a craft, and an industry. To undermine the value of writing is to take away earnings, respect and prosperity for those writers. It would be unfair and unjust to allow someone to reproduce my work for free. Creators need to get paid.
