Dear Copyright Consultation folk,

I am an author of 7 books for teens and middle school readers and at present, my income comes entirely from my career as a writer. I am very pleased that Canadian copyright law adheres to the Berne convention and am concerned that the government continue to maintain protection of Canadian creator's income as publishing technology changes. It is extremely important to me that I continue to get paid for reproduction of my work in any form. I've benefited from programs such as PLR and Access Copyright and hope that I may count on this income in future; every payment I receive counts.

In the current economic climate, I am struggling to continue to contribute to Canadian literacy through my writing. Please ensure fair compensation to Canadian creators through effective legislation covering web publishing and reproduction and other emerging technologies. If I don't receive payment for the work I do in writing, then the reality of earning a living by other means will necessarily overtake the time I can afford to bring to the creation of story. While I am only one of many writers I feel that I contribute to the diversity and richness of Canadian creation and it's my hope that this continues to be valued.

Sincerely,
K.L. Denman
