Music & Entertainment should be free and be made available to everyone, and not just those who can afford it. This is the perfect time to set the example that we are not just a country that blindly follows money, corporate bullying, or the politics of the USA.

Statistically speaking, the wealth within most countries (Canada in this case), belongs to the smallest percentage of the population, eluding to this media sharing really isn't affecting anyone's pockets too largely. So I ask; How much more do the richest of us have to take from the poor to be satisfied? Are we trying to offset those numbers even more? Shouldn't we all be equal, or at least somewhat closer to it then what we currently are?

Myself being of the 'common' sort of people and having discussed this in some length with peers, I believe that;

We will be moved to purchase anything that 'speaks directly to us'. A favorite artist, or a favorite movie or song, most of us want our own 'good quality' tangible copy. And we want more of them, reason to support their talents. Besides, musicians make most of their money off of merchandising and concerts (which I rather put money toward than have another CD case cluttering things up. And as a side note toward the current DRM; I also don't want to have to have an internet connection to have to play a purchased song, movie, or game every time I want to access it. I don't always have a connection) Celebrities make money with endorsements, with original and repeat broadcasting of their television performances for years following the original air date. Advertising dollars filter into this system, which we also have to subsidize with payment to the cable company. Then there's that Canadian Media levy to protect these people and companies products, a levy that has already seen increases.

We seem to have forgot how to share and enjoy what we can do and contribute to each other, and it's all focused on the money. I would love to be able to sing or perform to have people enjoy themselves at the performance. Sure I'd love to make money doing it, but it really should be more about the craft and making yourself and other people happy by sharing your talents. Yes we have to be able to make money to survive, but it's not a question of that, this one is more that of greed. How much do these artists and production companies need to be 'compensated' for when others are struggling to afford the necessities?

Finally if you are an artist that feels ripped off by media sharing, then don't contribute, no one is forcing you too. There are tons of people on youtube who just want to share their views, without compensation. Many of those people have talent beyond those hyped in the media, or those who are in it solely for the cash.

I think passing this bill will make the country feel like a police state. Making digital sharing illegal will just make it develop an underground. No matter what happens to improve digital rights management, someone out there will always find a way around it. This time they'll also find a better way to encrypt it to keep those who should be respecting Canada's 'privacy' laws out of their business. Before the internet, there was blanks tapes, Bulletin Board Systems, VCR's, photocopiers to duplicate copy written material. It's no different than it was 25 years ago, just different technology.

There are so many reasons to not pass this bill, too many to go into them all, but I hope what I have said is taken into consideration.
