I am a little concerned about this whole rework of the copyright laws. I know there is tremendous pressure from the involved industries about limiting what people can do with the media the general public buys. In the pre-internet era the expectation was that something bought was for perpetuity with a very broad scope of use, I'm not sure whats wrong with that. If we do what is suggested by the media industry we would only hold the license for a very limited time or a very limited use. This would destroy the possibility of individual collectors of media passing on their collections to someone else. If the purchase only covered the life or use of the intiial buyer as some software licenses are set-up ther would never be a donation of media to a library or university by an individual collector.

The current laws prohibit any rebroadcast or distribution without the express written concent of the licensed distributor. That wording can and does apply to broadcast or distribution over the internet. We currently can record media for our personal use, and I don't think the media industry likes that. If that industries wishes when it came to copyright laws were applied to say the auto industry it would mean that at the end of our use of our cars we would have to give them back to the manufacturer and they could simply redistribute them again producing the product once and making money on every additional transaction till it is turned to scrap, and they would still make money with scrap. Its a way to make more money, give less of a product and and control everything. It is just not right.

It is not allowed in any other industry and should not be allowed here.
