Not all people interested in copyright are musicians, film makers or music and film consumers.
We create desktop images which contribute to our revenue stream. We spend many hours and thousands of dollars each year creating these images. It may not be much by the entertainment industry standard but it is a lot for a very small group like ourselves.
We spend a portion of our time chasing people who steal our Intellectual Property from us through re-distribution or as using it for decoration for their websites and other marketing material.
Permitting this kind of theft is a massive disincentive towards creation. There is no use in creating if anyone can simply take it without repercussion. Consider it this way, "You plant a fruit tree in your yard and every passerby who feels so inclined helps him/herself. They take your fruit and give it away or sell it cheap. Why not? They have nothing invested in it so if they sell it for cheap they loose nothing — it cost them nothing. If they give it away, it's no loss — it cost them nothing anyhow.
Our photographs, which "we" post for public consumption, are our fruit. They contribute, through advertising revenue, to our income stream. Those who steal and/or re-distribute reduce that income stream in much the same way as people who harvest your fruit take food off your table.
The fruits of our labour — our minds and creativity — pay for our food and for our home. Those who steal our work are taking food of our tables. There are very few true content creators out there. This creative spirit cannot be encouraged through loss of ownership.
