The government should avoid a Bill C-61 style approach to copyright law. The new bill should have no impact on personal copyright issues. I don't support anything that prevents a person from backing up or modifying their own property such as unlocking cell phones or backing up personal media. I don't support a copyright law that would give the music industry power to sue individuals for more money than the media is worth off the shelf. I want to see a modern copyright that is realistic about Internet file-sharing and doesn't prop up old business models that aren't feasible with or without new laws. The bottom-line is I want a copyright law that doesn't favour corporations over the average Canadian citizen.
