Prohibition on Lobbying
The Lobbying Act introduced a five-year prohibition on lobbying for former designated public office holders and members of a Prime Minister's transition team. For a period of five years, individuals who cease to hold such a position cannot:
- Work as consultant lobbyists
- Work for an organization and carry out lobbying activities on behalf of that organization; or
- Work for a corporation if lobbying constitutes 20% or more of their duties.
Under the Act, the Commissioner of Lobbying may grant such individuals an exemption from the five-year prohibition if an exemption would not be contrary to the purposes of the Act.
