The thing that continues to amaze me about the discussion around using Digital Technologies is how often people, Governments or Businesses continue to do things the same old way rather than truly innovating.
For example, look at the close to Billion that will be spent on holding the G8 and G20 Summits in Canada soon. There is plenty of technology available that could allow all participants to engage in these summits without ever leaving the privacy and security of their home countries.
Why are we sitting here one tenth of the way through the 21st century still flying hundreds of people around the world to hold such an event?
Consider the Possibilities of using enhanced digital collaboration technology to hold these meetings and by doing so, showcase Canadian and other technology and know how, create hundreds of jobs, create new demand for products and services and prove to the world that we are committed to reducing greenhouse gases and truly innovating using digital technology.
I can think of many similar examples but, this one just screams out at me as being a real life example of why we have to start doing things differently using digital technologies.

Yes, we definitely need to start doing things differently as a nation. The major disconnect, in my opinion, lays with the adoption and use of new technologies at the highest levels of government.
In terms of on an international scale, such as the G8/G20, the risk of failure from using technologies that high level officials may not have 100% confidence in, outweighs the huge price tag of just physically bringing all these hugely important leaders to one location.
