Importance of CAP Program in Rural Areas

The village of Waverley is essentially in a rural setting despite its proximity to the city of Halifax. It has no public library or public transportation services. As such, its isolation has benefited significantly from the availability of public computer access that has been made possible through the CAP Program. In addition, summer student support provided through the Halifax Regional C@P Association in partnership with the Waverley Ratepayers Association has facilitated IT learning opportunities for local seniors and new computer users throughout the summer months. The latter service is of special importance in promoting IT literacy over the full spectrum of Canadian citizenry. From my perspective, the C@P Program is likely one of the most highly leveraged government programs currently operating in regard to volunteers and infrastructure commitments from various participating municipal organizations and local governments making it one of the more cost–effective government–driven ventures.
