Summary

As a Canadian, I feel shackled to a wall when it comes to my choice of television providers. There are many other providers that provide better content and service that are restricted in Canada due to regulation regarding Canadian content. If content needs to be forced upon Canadians by our on regulations then Canadians need a change, what happened to equality? Choose what you want to watch and if your provider does not offer it choose another.

Why must I purchase a top box/pvr with a remote to watch an encripted tv show sent by satelite? Why can I not just purchase a small box from the provider with a card to decode the signal for a monthly fee then choose what I want to do with it? As an example, encoded signal sent from provider is received, signal enters decoder box (provided by the provider) to be decoded, signal comming out of the box is QAM256 (HD) running over co–axial cable!!!

Submission

With the limited choice of television providers and requirement of the CRTC for Canadian content to be provided, we as Canadians restrict ourselves from the choice of other cultural providers that offer more and/or different content. We are shackled into purchasing or renting top boxes and pvr's which restrict the use of content we pay for instead of allowing purchased content to be used as the consumer sees fit.

The public consultation period ended on July 13 2010, at which time this website was closed to additional comments and submissions. News and updates on progress towards Canada’s first digital economy strategy will be posted in our Newsroom, and in other prominent locations on the site, as they become available.

Between May 10 and July 13, more than 2010 Canadian individuals and organizations registered to share their ideas and submissions. You can read their contributions — and the comments from other users — in the Submissions Area and the Idea Forum.
