Transcript: Arctic Polar Bears—Nunavut, Canada
[Shoshanah Jacobs—Expedition Leader, Cruise North Expeditions] At the Arctic, wildlife up here do not form colonies. So it's not like we can go to one place and guarantee a sighting. We are always looking. All the time, we have regular rotations. And we do usually find interesting things along the way.
Motivation for our passengers, generally when they arrive, is to see polar bears. That's the number one. The big five also include walrus, beluga, caribou.
[Unnamed tourist] Bellot Strait should almost be changed to Polar Bear Strait because we saw, I don't know, fifteen polar bears or more.
[Unnamed guide] Saba has discovered a beautiful skull over here.
[Jeff Goodyear—Whale Biologist, Cruise North Expeditions] I suspect this is probably maybe two, less than two years old. Just because of its size. But if this was preyed on by another male, because the males are known to eat their cubs, you would potentially see punch marks in the skull from the teeth. I mean a large male polar bear you know could easily crush the skull.
