CTC closes 2011 on a high at EIBTM in Barcelona
19 December 2011—If every picture tells a story, then having more than 100 must mean you have some great tales to tell. The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) ensured that attendees at this year's EIBTM (The Global Meetings & Events Exhibition) in Barcelona had plenty of Canada to think over. A walkway from one main entrance had 106 images taken from CTC's Brand Canada Library to stir attendee imaginations, while the other main entrance was converted into a “Chinese gate” of two colossal Canada images.

16 December 2011—There's no doubt that China is one of Canada's most promising tourism markets. As such, it will play a major role in helping the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) meet its Federal Tourism Strategy commitments. Putting this market into context, Ryan Brain of Deloitte (speaking at the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC)'s 2011 Tourism Congress) showed that if China maintained its current double-digit growth it would become Canada's second largest tourism market—behind only the US—within 10 years.

Labour Force Survey Highlights–November 2011
In November 2011, the unemployment rate in the tourism sector was 6.5%. This was 1% lower than the rate reported in November 2010.
CTHRC Continues Collaboration with Industry Canada
In November, the CTHRC had conversations and with Andrea Pierce, Economist of the Small Business and Tourism Branch of Industry Canada, to discuss the appropriate terminology to use in describing new information emerging from custom data tabulations on small and medium size businesses in the tourism sector in Canada, as identified by the Canadian Tourism Satellite Account. September '11 was another busy month at Canada's border crossings, with 1.7 million international visitors coming to this country. This represented a 1% increase on the previous year, according to the latest Tourism Snapshot, hot off the presses from the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)'s Research department. However, the year-to-date figures reveal a 1% decline on 2010, with 13 million international overnighters.

Government of Canada and VIA Rail complete major improvements to Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto line

Canada welcomes China Southern Airlines Inaugural Flight
Vancouver, British Columbia, June 15, 2011—The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, and Vancouver Airport Authority president and CEO Larry Berg today welcomed the inaugural China Southern Airlines flight between Guangzhou, China, and Vancouver. The China Southern Airlines service will run three times weekly between Vancouver and Guangzhou, the capital of China's most populous province, Guangdong. This is Canada's first and only non-stop flight to Guangzhou.
