Tourism Sector

Tourism is defined as the activities of persons who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited." (Reference: UNWTO)

Reasons to travel include leisure, vacation, or a holiday; visiting friends or relatives; and attending a conference or convention. The tourism sector is made up of several industries, including

  • transportation
  • accommodation
  • food and beverage
  • recreation and entertainment
  • travel services
