Canada is Ready to Host G8 Leaders in Muskoka

HUNTSVILLE, Ontario, May 21, 2010 — After meeting with Muskoka’s community and civic leaders today to discuss plans for the G8 Leaders Summit on June 25 and 26, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, said today that Canada is ready to welcome world leaders to Muskoka for the event.

“Canada is ready to host the world,” Minister Clement said. “Muskoka’s leaders have worked hard with the federal government to ensure that the June G8 Leaders Summit will be a highly successful and secure event, as we showcase one of Canada’s most beautiful areas to the world. This event will also give Canada the opportunity to show leadership on critical global issues.”

Next month’s summit will bring together leaders from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In addition to providing Muskoka with an opportunity to promote itself to the world, the leaders summit has already benefited the area through critical infrastructure investments, including the expanded G8 conference centre in Huntsville.

Minister Clement will be on hand for the official opening of the revitalized G8 conference centre on Sunday, May 23.
