The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), announced Government of Canada support for new research that will examine the social, economic and environmental advantages that co-operatives provide to communities across the country, while speaking at the 2010 National Summit on a People-Centred Economy in Ottawa. The project is receiving an investment of approximately $1 million over five years through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada's (SSHRC's) Community–University Research Alliances grants.
