The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), travelled through Atlantic Canada during the week of June 21. The tour was meant to underline the link between the federal government and the region’s science and technology community.
The Minister of State visited Prince Edward Island’s Bioscience Cluster. He took in a new building project at the New Brunswick Community College’s Saint John Campus. He announced a $15‑million investment in 125 of Canada’s top researchers in science and engineering through the Discovery Accelerator Supplements. He attended National Research Council Canada events in Sackville, New Brunswick, and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Throughout the week, Minister of State Goodyear spoke of the federal government’s continuing support for science, technology and innovation — through its policies and investments.
Federal policies and programs for science and technology have inspired and assisted Canadians to perform at world-class levels of scientific and technological excellence. The government has targeted funding to priority areas of national strength and opportunity, focusing on the areas of environmental science and technologies, natural resources and energy, health and related life sciences, and information and communications technologies.
