Minister of State Rob Moore Meets with Small Business Leaders in Sudbury
Sudbury, Ontario, August 18, 2010 — The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), today held a roundtable meeting in downtown Sudbury. The Minister of State discussed challenges facing business owners and the leading role the federal government is playing to help position Canadian small businesses for success.
"Our government continues to consult small business owners, as we help create one of the best business climates in the world," said Minister of State Moore.
The Minister of State highlighted the government's efforts to cut red tape — namely, highlighting the successful reduction in red tape for small businesses by 20 percent. However, he assured business leaders there is more work to be done.
"That is why we announced the creation of a Red Tape Reduction Commission to review federal regulations in areas where reform is most needed to reduce the compliance burden," said Minister of State Moore.
As the tourism industry is a primary economic driver in the Sudbury region, much time was also spent discussing the Federal Tourism Strategy (FTS). The FTS was announced by Prime Minister Harper in June 2009 and will help strengthen Canada's economy, as the tourism sector grows and creates new jobs for Canadian workers.
"Our strategy will help strengthen the long-term competitiveness of the tourism sector," said Minister of State Moore. "It builds on the momentum of Canada's Economic Action Plan, which invests in parks, historic sites, recreational trails, festivals and events, and the domestic and international marketing of Canada as a top tourism destination."
Further details on the FTS will be announced in the coming months.
