Minister of Industry Clement Statement on BHP Billiton's Proposed Acquisition of PotashCorp
Ottawa, October 4, 2010 — Today, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, made the following statement regarding BHP Billiton’s proposal to acquire PotashCorp:
“Under the provisions of the Investment Canada Act, as Minister of Industry I can extend by 30 days the initial 45 day period for making my determination regarding a proposed foreign investment in a Canadian business.
“I have extended the timeline for making my determination of BHP Billiton’s proposed acquisition of PotashCorp.
“I will take the time necessary to do a thorough review of this investment proposal.”
