Monday, November 8

Minister of State Goodyear travelled to New Delhi on the invitation of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

The Minister of State met with a number of senior government officials, including the Honourable Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. Discussions included Canada–India cooperation in science and technology (S & T) and collaboration between Canadian and Indian universities to support innovation.

Following this meeting, Minister of State Goodyear participated in an informal lunch with a delegation of Canadian university presidents. The Minister of State spoke briefly and congratulated the delegation for its initiative in organizing the mission to India.

Tuesday, November 9

Minister of State Goodyear began the day by meeting with the Honourable Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development. They discussed Canada–India cooperation in higher education.

Minister of State Goodyear then provided the opening remarks to the Canada–India University Presidents' Round Table. He highlighted the long-standing bilateral relationship between Canada and India; Canada's investments in science and technology and in research and development; and Canada's initiatives to encourage international talent, including Indian students, to study in Canada.

Minister Goodyear then met with Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor with the Government of India. Dr. Chidambaram is responsible for establishing synergy between government departments, academic institutions and industry in S&T. He is Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee to Cabinet and plays an influential role in guiding S&T policy development.

Stewart Beck, Canadian High Commissioner-Designate to the Republic of India, hosted a reception at his residence that evening for 100 guests. Minister of State Goodyear spoke briefly about the importance of academic and research relations between Canada and India, and he provided a recap of the Canada–India University Presidents' Round Table.
