Harper Government is Getting Things Done for Canadians

Ottawa, December 15, 2010 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, today celebrated the occasion of the passing into law of eight bills introduced by the Harper Government, highlighting the Fighting Internet and Wireless Spam bill.

“Governments are elected to make laws in the best interest of all Canadians, and that’s what our government is doing with eight of our bills receiving Royal Assent today,” said Minister Clement. “I’m especially pleased, as Canada’s Industry Minister, that my Fighting Internet and Wireless Spam bill will become law, helping protect Canadian businesses and consumers from harmful and misleading online threats.”

This fall, the Harper Government’s number-one priority was the economy, and today the Sustaining Canada’s Economic Recovery Act became law. The legislation implements key measures from Budget 2010, the jobs and growth budget.

The Harper Government is also pleased that other important legislation became law to protect Canadian consumers, make Canadian streets and communities safer, and improve the lives of individuals and their families.

“While our government has made some important progress, there is still much more to be done before the current session of Parliament ends,” said Minister Clement. “I encourage all members of the House to support our legislation to eliminate pardons for sexual offenders, repeal the faint hope clause for convicted murderers and combat the abuse of Canada’s immigration system by human smugglers.”
