Harper Government Holds Economic Round Table in Montréal to Discuss Year of the Entrepreneur

Consults Montrealers on the role of small business in securing Canada's economic recovery

Montréal, Quebec, March 14, 2011 — The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), led an economic consultation session with Montréal-area business leaders to discuss their part in cementing Canada's economic recovery.

"Our government's top priority continues to be the economy," said Minister of State Moore. "As we move into the next phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan, Canada's entrepreneurs and the small and medium-sized business community will play a growing role in securing our economic recovery. Our goal is to make it easier for small businesses to invest and create jobs."

Prime Minister Stephen Harper designated 2011 as the Year of the Entrepreneur in recognition of the enormous contribution entrepreneurs make to Canada's economic success and the resilience and innovation Canadian entrepreneurs have demonstrated during the most challenging days of the global economic recession. The designation coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and the 15th anniversary of the Canadian Youth Business Foundation.

"Our government is keeping taxes low for businesses and families across Quebec," said Minister of State Moore. "The next phase of the Economic Action Plan will continue to focus on protecting the financial security of hard-working Canadians and their families."

Minister of State Moore led the round table with the Regroupement des jeunes chambres de commerce du Québec (assembly of youth chambers of commerce of Quebec) in downtown Montréal, which included a broad cross-section of business leaders discussing Canada's economic recovery and the next phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
