Harper Government Recognizes Contribution of Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto

Toronto, Ontario, March 12, 2011 — The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), attended the Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto's 16th annual gala.

"I want to congratulate the Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto on its many years of service, promoting countless business ties and friendships," said Minister of State Moore. "Through the association, members have maintained connections to Taiwan and built bridges to the community here in Canada."

The economy remains the top priority of the Harper Government. With the global economic recovery still fragile, the government is focused on creating jobs and economic growth for Canadians. The strength of the economy depends on the health of small and medium-sized businesses.

"We are supporting the greatest generator of jobs and wealth in this country, which employs almost half of our private sector workforce," said Minister of State Moore. "As we move into the Next Phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan, small and medium-sized businesses will play an even greater role in helping to secure our economic recovery. We will continue to focus on protecting the financial security of hardworking Canadians and their families. I look forward to building on our collective momentum.

"The Harper Government also believes that law-abiding citizens should not be the target of Canada's justice system," said Minister of State Moore. "This is why we've introduced new legislation to provide clear direction on the appropriate use of citizen's arrest, self-defence and defence of property. Small business owners need to know that they have the law on their side."
