Canada's Communications Research Centre (CRC) is the federal government's primary laboratory for research and development (R&D) in wireless technologies, with a particular focus on the efficient exploitation of radio frequency (RF) spectrum.

What we do

CRC is focused on addressing increasing demands on RF spectrum fuelled by the proliferation of mobile devices running bandwidth‑hungry applications. CRC is well positioned to address resulting spectrum challenges and opportunities by performing R&D, providing scientific and technical advice, and supporting the creation of technological solutions that maximize the effective utilization of RF spectrum.

CRC's advantage extends from our:

Night view of a radome at CRC’s main research lab
  • in‑depth understanding of the fundamentals of wireless technologies, namely propagation, RF technologies and signal processing; to our
  • know‑how in networks and systems, specifically in the design, analysis and optimization of existing networks and systems, and our insight into future networks and systems; to our
  • expertise in applications and performance, encompassing network applications development, radio architecture and integration, as well as performance evaluation.

Collaborate with us

Teams of research scientists, engineers and technicians collaborate across the organization. They also partner externally. Specifically, CRC:

  • enters into R&D collaborations with universities, R&D labs as well as industry partners;
  • undertakes engineering projects with industry, extending across the range of CRC expertise;
  • offers opportunities to license CRC intellectual property and technologies; and
  • provides access to R&D results published in journals, along with reports posted on CRC's website.
