Breakdown of Strategic Policy Sector

The current structure of the Strategic Policy Sector includes the Assistant Deputy Minister and Assistant Associate Deputy Minister's office, four branches and one directorate:

  • The Marketplace Framework Policy Branch has the primary responsibility at Industry Canada for the development and coordination of marketplace framework policies in the areas of corporate and insolvency law, intellectual property, foreign investment and internal trade.
  • The Economic Research and Policy Analysis Branch provides policy analysis to senior management and performs research on economic issues of importance to the Minister of Industry.
  • The Strategic Policy Branch supports the Minister of Industry, senior management and the Department as a whole by providing analysis and advice on micro-economic policy issues and serves as key departmental contact point for priority setting and cross-cutting economic issues of interest to the Minister.
  • The Telecommunications Policy Branch plays a lead role in developing policy and legislation that promotes competitive, reliable, innovative and affordable telecommunication services.
  • Strategic Planning and Corporate Services manages the integrated strategic business, financial and human resources plans and reports.
