Project Description
This project involves construction of an 89,400 square foot building for Queen’s University’s School of Medicine. The new building includes simulation labs equipped with control, debriefing and clinical supply rooms; innovative teaching spaces; teaching clinics; student study space; and advanced science laboratories. The facility is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: The new leading-edge, multidisciplinary research laboratories attract world-class research talent. Research conducted in the new facility supports medical discoveries to improve diagnosis and treatment of various diseases to benefit Canadians.
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: The new facility enables innovative teaching technologies utilizing robotics and simulation labs for advanced medical education to enhance the teaching and learning environment. The new building accommodates increased enrolment by 25 percent and continued training of highly qualified medical professionals and researchers.
- Improves energy efficiency: The new facility is designed to utilize the latest environmental materials and technologies in its construction to meet LEED certification, resulting in improved energy efficiency and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
