Project Description

This project involves renovating and widening a 40,000 square foot building to provide an additional 14,000 square feet. The renovation also involves replacing the roof and building envelope, removing asbestos and generally upgrading the interior with respect to vertical transportation, accessibility and washrooms.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: This project enhances Ryerson’s growth potential as a centre for graduate students, research and creative activity. Renovating facilities builds Ryerson’s capacity as one of the major schools for new media, documentary media, and cutting-edge film and photography research in North America.
  2. Expands or enhances utility of training space: The renovation and retrofit of 40,000 square feet and widening of the building to add 14,000 square feet significantly enhance the teaching environment for 768 graduate and undergraduate students in disciplines related to new media and the transition of current technologies (analog and chemical) to digital formats.
  3. Improves energy efficiency: The renovation and retrofit adhere to environmentally sound practices. Replacing the roof, combined with the new building envelope, increases the thermal performance of the building and reduces energy consumption.
