Project Description

This project involves construction of the Research and Academic Centre, a 90,000 square foot building. The centre includes a library, laboratories, classrooms and offices. The facility is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: The Research and Academic Centre is designed for research in legal studies, including criminology, law and society, human rights and policing; early childhood education; and health studies, including health administration.
  2. Expands or enhances utility of training space: The new laboratories, classrooms and learning space in the Research and Academic Centre enhance training in Legal Studies, Early Childhood Education and Health Studies at Wilfred Laurier University and provide infrastructure to accommodate an additional 1,800 students by 2012.
  3. Improves energy efficiency: The facility is constructed with the latest environmental materials/technologies and is designed to meet LEED certification, resulting in improved energy efficiency and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
