Conestoga College — Cambridge, Waterloo, Guelph
Project: School of Engineering and Information Technology
Status of Project: Substantially completed
Project Description
This project involves construction of five new buildings on various campuses of Conestoga College. On the Cambridge campus, a 200,000 square foot building for the School of Engineering and Information Technology and a 60,000 square foot facility for the Institute for Food Processing Technologies are being constructed. These facilities share a single footprint, common areas and educational resources, and are equipped with advanced technologies, specialized training areas and smart classrooms. The two buildings are designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
Additional construction includes a 12,000 square foot facility for a Roofing Skills Training Centre and a 10,000 square foot facility for a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system Skills Training Centre (Waterloo campus) and expanding the Motive Power Skills Training Centre (Guelph campus) by 2,000 square feet.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: The expanded and new facilities accommodate an additional 2,000 post-secondary technicians and technologists, 1,000 apprenticeship students, and 500 full-time and 300 apprenticeship students for the Institute for Food Processing Technology. The new School of Engineering and Information Technology focuses on training in advanced manufacturing, information technology, robotics, process automation and food processing to enhance business and industry productivity.
- Improves energy efficiency: The facilities are designed to utilize the latest environmental materials, appliances and technologies in their construction to meet LEED Silver certification, resulting in improved energy efficiency and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
