Project Description

This project involves renovating the interior of a 42,000 square foot building and replacing interior structures, including mechanical and electrical systems. Renovations include installing a new stairwell; converting the second level into a classroom and seminar rooms; and converting the third floor into three classrooms, four breakout rooms, a lab, washrooms and a service area.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of training space: This project supports student training in environmental sciences and technologies. The centre creates a unique opportunity for learning, economic development, environmental research and innovation.
  2. Develops incubation facilities for industry and research: The redevelopment project houses the Arthur Irving Academy for the Environment and partners with the public sector (Parks Canada Cooperative Studies Unit), non-governmental organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, and faculty (proposed Chair in Tidal Engineering). Multidisciplinary partnerships foster research and development and offer opportunities to export new technologies and services.
