Project Description
This project involves replacing the C-Wing trades facility with a new 33,736 square foot Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment. The new facility includes research labs, lecture rooms, offices, group study areas, a theatre, a boardroom, a resource centre, a library and an exhibit hall.

Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: The Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment increases advancement and transfer of knowledge in sustainability and environmental remediation. The facility houses 20 university researchers and co-locates four proposed Research Chairs specializing in research and innovation in mine water management, sources of renewable and green energy, clean energy from coal, and environmental remediation. The centre’s efforts focus on innovation, applying research to development and commercialization of remediation, monitoring and clean energy technologies.
- Improves energy efficiency: The new centre incorporates the latest environmental building materials/technologies to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The centre develops innovative and integrative solutions in Atlantic Canada for successful management of industrial pollution.
