Total KIP Funding:
$1,698,227
Status of Project: Substantially completed
Project Description
This project involves retrofitting research labs at the Evaristus building. Retrofitting includes replacing outdated fume hoods, flooring and benches. It also includes updating the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, safety stations and lighting.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: Renovated labs enable the university to operate research year-round and accommodate summer research groups. Replacing outdated fume hoods facilitates a greater range of experiments. The science programs at the university have been increasing and the newly renovated space decreases the pressure on the existing labs as well as providing modern technology.
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: The project improves the training capacity of science laboratories and improves the learning environment for students.
- Upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities: Renovations bring the lab up to current standards for research and teaching to address concerns raised by the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. In addition, accessibility to lower labs was made available, as well as upgrades to the fire alarm system in the renovated area.
