Project Description
This project involves constructing a 120,000 square foot facility to house the Centre for the Built Environment environmental demonstration and training facility. The centre includes shop facilities and various renewable energy technologies. Environmental features include solar panels, planted rooftops and living walls covered with vegetation, wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, solar thermal hot water, and geothermal heating and cooling.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: The project enhances training and programs offered in environmental technologies. The building design is innovative and demonstrates effective utilization of environmental technologies and showcases the way these technologies can be directly incorporated into training programs.
- Improves energy efficiency: The new centre incorporates the latest environmental building materials/technologies, including solar panels, planted rooftops and living walls covered with vegetation, wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, solar thermal hot water, and geothermal heating and cooling.
