Project: Construction of facilities at Dawson City Campus

Total Project Cost:
$2,600,000
Total KIP Funding:
$1,300,000

Status of Project: Substantially completed

Project Description

This project involves construction of a new 4,500 square foot addition to the facility that houses the Dawson City Arts Society. The expansion includes 5 classrooms, computer labs, and a video conference room.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of training space: The new facility enables the College to relocate from its current location in a heritage building which has issues with air quality, overcrowding and accessibility and to continue to serve approximately 1,400 residents including over 300 First Nations students. The building provides great capacity to deliver the wide variety of education and training required in Dawson City, while still maintaining the close relationship with the arts community.
  2. Improves energy efficiency: The newly constructed facility features improved energy efficiency compared to the vacated heritage building, and will result in reduced operating costs for the College.
  3. Upgrades the health and safety aspects of facilities: Relocation to the new building will eliminate issues with air quality, and address overcrowding and provide improved accessibility.
