Project Description

This project involves renovating 1,500 square metres of existing space to accommodate a permanent location for the Nursing and Hospitality programs, a test centre for trades, and the Information Technology Department. The newly renovated space, that replaces 40 year-old mobile units, includes classrooms and laboratories, and a teaching kitchen. Further work includes converting existing space to accommodate the Donald School of Business and renovating various heating ventilation and air conditioning systems and electrical systems.

Primary Areas of Benefit

  1. Expands or enhances utility of training space: The construction of additional nursing and simulation laboratories, test kitchen for Hospitality students, classrooms and training spaces enhances the learning environment. The renovated space supports business training through the addition of the Donald School of Business that aims to be a focal point for business enterprise in the Central Alberta Region as well as being the primary provider of business related education.
  2. Improves energy efficiency: Reduction of emissions is achieved through the incorporation of energy conserving mechanical, electrical, and architectural systems.
  3. Upgrades the health and safety aspects of facilities: Renovations to existing HVAC system addressed ventilation and air quality issues. Furthermore, upgrades to fire protection systems improved the overall level of safety of the facility.
