Project: Regional Centres Infrastructure Facilities

Project Description
This project involves construction of 10 regional centres for the University College of the North. The Norway House Cree Nation Regional Centre, Flin Flon Regional Centre and Swan River Regional Centre are each 5,000 square feet and include classrooms, offices and storage space for shop tools. The facilities accommodate potential trades programs in heavy-duty mechanics, welding apprenticeships training and autobody repair.
Three 6,000 square foot buildings are constructed to house the Ste.Theresa Point First Nation Regional Centre, Mathias Colomb Cree Nation Regional Centre and Misipawistik Cree Nation Regional Centre. Each centre includes classrooms, a computer lab, offices, a common area for students, a library, a resource centre and a meeting room with one classroom equipped with video conferencing capabilities for distance education.
Accommodation units for university staff are added to the Tataskweyak campus in Split Lake, Cross Lake campus in Cross Lake and Chemawawin campus in Easterville. In addition, this project involves renovating three classrooms at the Chemawawin campus and upgrading classrooms at the Churchill campus in Churchill.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: This project increases academic and trades programs offered at the institution. The project leads to a marked increase in post-secondary enrolment in training and education for students.
