Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario
Project: Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO): OETIO (Morrisburg/Oakville)
Status of Project: Substantially completed
Project Description
This project involves enhancing facilities at International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 793. This $2.4 million project improves facilities, making them more conducive for training. Work includes windows and doors, millwork, flooring, painting, plumbing, electrical and installation of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The project also includes the addition of four class rooms, two simulation labs as well as two mechanics garages.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of training space: Improvements to the campus make facilities more conductive for training heavy equipment operators. This project increases training capacity for tower and crane operators, heavy equipment operators and mechanical trades.
- Upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities: The water system replacement allows for improved fire protection and reduces chances of water contamination. In addition, renovations address leaking windows and roofs as well as mould problems. Before the implementation of this project, simulation equipment was at risk of being damaged by water due to leaks.
