Project Description
This project involves renovating and renewing the main academic complex building of Redeemer University College. Renewal includes upgrading and expanding the chemistry, physics, kinesiology and music laboratories; replacing and expanding the research greenhouse; and enhancing co-op, continuing education and research and faculty development. Renovation includes replacing 12 aging heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and various windows, and installing overhead service doors, interior and exterior paging systems for emergency notification, new locks, emergency contact “blue phones” and window coverings on large windows.
Primary Areas of Benefit
- Expands or enhances utility of research and development space: This project expands and enhances research and development space by adding three new laboratories for chemistry, physics and kinesiology, a new greenhouse and a weather station.
- Improves energy efficiency: This project improves energy efficiency of the building by installing a 150 PV solar photovoltaic system on the roof; replacing 12 aging heating, ventilation and air conditioning units; installing airlock-style vestibules at six major entrances; replacing all street and original office windows; and installing a new 2,000 kilovolt-amp transformer.
- Upgrades health and safety aspects of facilities: A safer and healthier campus is achieved through installation of an interior and exterior paging system for emergency notification; new locks for all doors, with lockdown capabilities; emergency contact “blue phones” in various stations; and window coverings on large windows for lockdown purposes.
